The reverse of the coin depicts what seems to be an after-earthquake scenario filled with earth cracks. On top of the coin, the inscriptions: "EARTHQUAKE" – the name of the coin and "CATACLYSMS" – the name of the series.
 
The obverse of the coin depicts a catastrophic scene, the remains of a disrupted city after a terrible earthquake and the Coat of Arms of Fiji. All around the obverse, the inscriptions: "FIJI" – the issuing country, "2017" – the year of issue and "2 DOLLARS" – the face value.
