Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I by Gustav Klimt 2 oz 999 Fine Silver Coin – Republic of Chad 2022
Klimt was born in 1862 near Vienna in Austria-Hungary. He was trained at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts and later worked on a private commission for portraits for much of his career. He did also paint murals and interior ceilings in large public buildings as well while working alongside his brother Ernst. Klimt’s work was created during the Belle Epoque which was a period of high art in the city of Vienna. Gustav was also one of the founding members of the Vienna Secession which was a group of artists who wanted to break from conservatism and create new and exciting art. The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I was one such work that challenged the boundaries of accepted art styles at the time.
This portrait was commissioned in 1903 by Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer for Adele’s parents. Klimt drew more than 100 preliminary sketches for the piece before starting on the actual work of painting it. He was heavily influenced in the painting style by pieces of art in the Basilica of San Vitale from the period of Justinian I. The style of the painting mimics the mosaics that were the inspiration for the design and offers a unique blend of realistic detail and mosaic-inspired segments. The viewer is not sure whether they are looking at a mosaic or at a painting and this revolutionary combination of styles within the same painting was commented upon then and is still famous today.
With colors carefully imprinted in the same shades and degree as the original, it is a replica of his masterpiece. On the reverse, the painting is delivered as is with a highly textured relief, especially mirroring the texture of the actual artwork. There are few pieces of art on the market in any form that look like this one. The combination of classical painting and mosaic-style details is totally unique to this piece and is very memorable. This is a wonderful piece to add to any collection of art and there is no better rendering process to give collectors the right blend of texture and design. This is a really unique piece of art that corresponds well with being rendered in this way with ease. The obverse presents an original design depicting a portrait of the artist himself and the theme of this collectible, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, in a currency note style as the design of the legal tender, featuring the Coat of Arms du Tchad.
On a canvas of 12 x 12cm, a new minting technique called “Bi-Metal Max” was applied to give this piece its remarkable weight while keeping its proportions true to the actual painting. This is made possible by combining 33.5 oz of copper as a base with a top layer of 2 oz of 999 pure Silver. This is a limited edition of 500 pieces only. Each piece is packaged and delivered with a Certificate verifying its edition number and authenticity.
