Saint Charbel Makhlouf (1828–1898) - 1oz 999.9 Fine Silver Coin - Liberia 2026
Lebanon Mint presents a new and exciting coin; in a period marked by war and destruction, this coin becomes a powerful symbol and an antidote to devastation and hatred, opening the doors to hope.
Saint Charbel Makhlouf (1828–1898) was a Lebanese Maronite monk and hermit, venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church, known for his life of extreme austerity, prayer and silence. Famous for his incorrupt body and countless miracles of healing, he is considered a powerful intercessor.
Saint Charbel was born in northern Lebanon, to a peasant family; from a young age he felt drawn to spirituality. He entered the monastery of the Lebanese Maronite Order, choosing a life of poverty, obedience and devotion, marked by long fasts and prayer. Saint Charbel is a symbol for Lebanon, now torn apart by a conflict that seems to have neither end nor peace; the message he conveys, silently yet relentlessly, is that holiness today is not perceived as an archaic concept, but as a concrete path embodied in everyday life; it is a smile, a kind gesture, and support in times of difficulty; it is a shelter, a refuge, a safe place—both physical and spiritual— where bombs do not fall.
