Gungnir is the legendary spear of Odin, the supreme god of the Germanic pantheon. Forged by the dwarves – the Sons of Ivaldi – it was created as a gift worthy of the ruler of Asgard. It was the perfect weapon: once thrown, it would always strike its target, regardless of distance or obstacles, and its blow could never be avoided. Gungnir symbolized divine authority, wisdom, and the inevitability of fate. According to Germanic sagas, Odin would begin battles by casting the spear above the warriors and dedicating them to himself, making it a symbol of victory.

The obverse and reverse of the coin depict the two sides of this legendary artefact, with the blade and the surrounding border decorated with runic symbols emphasizing the magical power of Gungnir.

Just above the handle, an intricately ornamented guard presents a scene of Odin riding his eight-legged steed Sleipnir. The ruler of Asgard is accompanied by his loyal ravens, Huginn and Muninn – embodiments of thought and memory – while the wolf Fenrir charges into battle, foreshadowing the events of Ragnarök. The finely crafted details give the spear a monumental appearance, highlighting its place among the most powerful artefacts of mythology.
