Coin description
The reverse features a colorful aquarelle interpretation of Libra centered around a large decorative butterfly rendered in soft shades of pink, blue, turquoise, and violet. Balanced scales appear on both sides of the butterfly, representing Libra’s traditional association with harmony, fairness, and equilibrium. Geometric forms, the Libra glyph, planetary symbolism, and the Libra constellation are incorporated into the celestial background. The name “LIBRA” appears prominently at the top, while the outer ring displays all twelve zodiac symbols.

The obverse side of the coin features the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Ghana at its center.

Surrounding the Coat of Arms is a complete zodiac calendar, with all twelve zodiac icons arranged in a circular pattern. The inscriptions include: “REPUBLIC OF GHANA” (the issuing country), “2026” (the year of issue), and “FIVE CEDIS” (the face value).

Background information
The Zodiac is an ancient astrological system that divides the sky into twelve signs associated with different constellations and periods of the year. Developed from early Babylonian astronomy and later expanded through Greek traditions, the zodiac became a way of connecting celestial movements with personality, symbolism, and human experience. Its twelve signs remain widely recognized today and continue to influence art, culture, and astrology around the world.

Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac and generally covers September 23 to October 22. Represented by the scales and traditionally ruled by Venus, Libra is associated with balance, fairness, beauty, diplomacy, and relationships. Those born under the sign are often described as sociable, thoughtful, and naturally drawn toward harmony. The scales symbolize Libra’s desire to consider different perspectives and find equilibrium, while Venus reflects its connection with aesthetics, affection, and refinement.
