2014 $50 FINE SILVER COIN – ICONIC POLAR BEAR

The newest offering from the Royal Canadian Mint with a high face value. The coin is a 1/2 oz of Pure Silver and has a face value of $50, and has the image of the Iconic Polar Bear. The Silver Coin has a matte-proof finsih and a very affordable price.

The iconic polar bear is a fitting icon for a nation that, like Ursus maritimus itself, has been shaped by the forces of ice, wind, water and stone. Stoic and strong, adaptable and clever, the polar bear has long captivated the Canadian imagination and been held up as a symbol of the northern spirit.

The dynamic reverse design by Canadian artist Emily Damstra features the portrait of a polar bear leaping between ice floes in the open waters of the Arctic sea.

The polar bear's special adaptations for its frozen habitat are presented to stunning effect, including its small ears, foreshortened black snout, massive furred paws, and powerful musculature covered in an iconic white coat of thick, water-proof fur. Its small eyes are set on its target as the enormous bear extends its front and hind legs in an agile leap between ice floes. Behind the bear, we see sheets of ice dotting the rippling open waters of the sea, far into the horizon. The textures and shading of ice, water, fur, and muscle are beautifully captured by Royal Canadian Mint engravers using a variety of finishing and engraving techniques.
