Hercules and the Nemean Lion is the first release in The Twelve Labors of Hercules Series, dedicated to the legendary feats performed by one of the greatest heroes of Greek mythology.
The reverse depicts the dramatic confrontation between Hercules and the fearsome Nemean Lion. Since the beast’s impenetrable hide could not be pierced by ordinary weapons, Hercules was forced to fight it with his bare hands. The exceptionally detailed high-relief composition captures the hero overpowering the lion, highlighting his extraordinary strength, courage and determination. Golden tones stand out vividly against the deep black background, creating a powerful three-dimensional effect.
 
The obverse introduces the complete series through twelve individual symbols representing the legendary Labors of Hercules. At the centre, the inscription “THE TWELVE LABORS OF HERCULES” is surrounded by an elegant laurel wreath, while the specifications appear along the lower edge.
