1994 Canadian $1 Remembrance/National War Memorial Loonie Proof Dollar Coin

At Confederation Square in Ottawa, Canada stands the Canadian National War Memorial (also known as The Response). Originally built to commemorate the Canadian soldiers that gave their lives during the First World War, in 1982 it was rededicated to include the Second World War and the Korean War by modifying the monument to add the years 1939-1945 (WWII) and 1950-1953 (Korea).

In 1994 the Royal Canadian Mint issued a special one year circulating commemorative dollar formally titled as "Remembrance" that recognizes the the fallen soldiers with a likeness of the memorial replicated on the design of the coin.

Design

The reverse design features a representation of the National War Memorial and on the outer periphery are the words "CANADA" and "DOLLAR".

The obverse, designed by Dora de Pedery Hunt, was the same as the previous Loonie series with the exception of a dual date (the date on normal dollar coins is on the reverse).
