Edward Teach, better known as ‘Blackbeard’, was an English pirate who dominated the Caribbean seas in the early 1700s. While he was not known for his treasures or wealth, his daunting appearance was unparalleled and preceded his reputation. Blackbeard was tall and slim, with an enormous black beard that he kept long and reaching to his waist, secured with ribbons. He cultivated for himself a terrifying image by lighting fuses under his hat and intertwining them with his hair. The resulting halo of smoke and fire that surrounded him gave him a frantic and fearsome outlook that often forced his victims into surrender. Despite his appearance, he was not an advocate for violence and relied mostly on this method of intimidation to win his battles.
 
This collectible is a tribute to Blackbeard’s formidable appearance. He stands aboard his ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge, marked by the barrel of overflowing skulls behind him. The sling across his chest houses the many pistols that hang within arm’s reach alongside a threatening belt of daggers hanging from his waist. Blackbeard holds his knife readily, his menacing form true to life. Against an up-close of his severe expression, the detail of his infamous beard is sharp and vivid with the use of precise engraving that gives an elaborate feel to each strand.
 
This incredible design is delivered in 3 finishes, allowing the collector a choice of adding one or all to his trove of treasures to different effects. Through the use of a new minting technique called “Bi-Metal Reverse”, it achieves a remarkable weight and 80mm diameter size – making it double the size of a regular 2 oz collectible. By combining 2 oz of 999 pure silver as a base with a top layer of 11.5 oz of copper, the result is a super ultra-high relief that brings out every detail to maximum effect, then finished with antiqued silver to conclude.
