The American Silver Eagles were first released in 1986 after the Liberty Coin Act was approved in July 9, 1985. The coin is backed by the U.S. Mint for its weight, content, and purity.
The coins have been minted at three different locations; Philadelphia Mint, San Francisco Mint, and the West Point Mint. The coin has a face value of $1 and is eligible for Individual Retirement Accounts.
