2014 CANADA 25-CENT GLOW IN THE DARK COLOURED COIN TIKTAALIK
Each year, new paleontological discoveries take place across Canada that provide important snapshots of the Earth’s ancient past and the primordial species that once inhabited it. In the case of Tiktaalik roseae, we not only gain a glimpse into a creature that lived on Earth hundreds of millions of years ago, but new insight into the relationship between the planet’s early water-based vertebrates and the tetrapods that came to dominate the land.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
- This distinctive cupronickel coin is the fourth in this series of coloured Prehistoric Creatures coins featuring photo-luminescent elements.
- Other coins in this series sold out quickly!
- Photo-luminescence is a glow-in-the-dark technology.
- Although sunlight is best, the fluorescent and incandescent lights found in most households can also be used to activate the special photo-luminescent ink that makes the bones of the dinosaur glow. For best results, place the coin in these light sources for 30 – 60 seconds then bring it into the dark to reveal the skeleton of the dinosaur.
DESIGN:
Designed by Canadian artist Julius Csotonyi, the stunning coloured coin illustrates palaeontologists’ rendition of what Tiktaalik roseae probably looked like—and when the coin is removed from natural light, the prehistoric creature’s skeleton is revealed.
