The statue represents Guan Yu. He was one of the most famous historical figures of ancient China. He lived between 162 and 219 BC. He was an outstanding general, displaying courage, integrity and wisdom. He was famous for his extraordinary loyalty.

He was worshiped by the Chinese to such an extent that he was declared a god after his death.
He is still revered today, especially in southern China. You can find statues of him in most Chinese homes.
