Quadruple Cameo Portraits - 60 gram 14-kt Gold Coin 300$ Canada 2004
A familiar sight in our everyday transactions, The Queen's effigy that appears on Canada's coins is a historic record of a monarchy's voyage through time - and when a single coin is struck with four separate effigies at the same time, it becomes a rare numismatic feat to be treasured! History was made in 2003 when the latest effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was introduced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her coronation. With this new portrait, The Queen became the first monarch to be represented on Canadian coins with four separate effigies.
This remarkable achievement is celebrated with this stunning 14-karat gold coin that was struck with unprecedented precision in order to reproduce each one of The Queen's effigies in the minute perfection of a cameo: (clockwise from the top) The Queen's effigy of 2003 by Susanna Blunt, 1990-2002 by Dora de PŽdery-Hunt, 1965-1989 by Arnold Machin and 1953-1964 by Mary Gillick. Elaborate guilloche patterns envelope each effigy as they flow towards The Queen's Cypher that appears at the center while the reverse features Canada's Coat of Arms flanked by the same ornamentation - an elegant design that's fit for a queen!
