Steamboat Willie was released in 1928 and was not only Mickey Mouse's debut, it was also the first Disney cartoon to have synchronized sound. The cartoon was less than 8 minutes long, but was the first production to bring fame to Walt Disney. Steamboat Willie is recognized today as one of the greatest cartoons of all time.
 
The reverse of this coin displays Mickey Mouse happily steering the boat and imagining himself to be the captain, shortly before being booted off the bridge.
