Gungnir is the mythical spear of Odin, the supreme god of the Germanic pantheon. This weapon was forged by the dwarven masters – the Sons of Ivaldi – as a gift worthy of the ruler of Asgard. It was the perfect weapon: once cast into the air, it always found its target, bypassing any obstacle, with no escape from its strike. In Germanic sagas, Gungnir became a symbol of inevitable destiny, divine power, and wisdom. Odin would famously begin battles by throwing the spear over the heads of the troops, serving as a ritual sacrifice and a harbinger of victory.

The obverse and reverse of the coin present both sides of this legendary artifact. Both the blade and the edge of the numismatic piece are adorned with runic inscriptions, emphasizing Gungnir’s magical nature. Just above the hilt is an elaborate guard featuring a scene of Odin riding his eight-legged steed, Sleipnir. The ruler is accompanied by his loyal ravens – Huginn and Muninn, the personifications of thought and memory – while the wolf Fenrir charges into attack, heralding the arrival of Ragnarök. Thanks to the precise detailing, the spear takes on a monumental appearance, reinforcing its position as one of the most powerful objects known from mythology.
